What is glare and how do we block it?

Visible light waves from the sun travel in all directions. When sunlight reflects off a horizontal surface, like a road or water, it often becomes concentrated horizontally. This is known as glare. Vertical light is useful to the human eye. But glare masks useful light, making it difficult and uncomfortable to see.


Non-polarized sunglasses only reduce the amount of visible light entering the eye, darkening the view. They don’t block glare.

Outstanding polarizing efficiency

Not all polarization is equal. Because not all polarized sunglasses block glare as well as they should. A polarizing filter is no guarantee of an effective glare-blocking lens. It depends on the quality of the filter and how the lens has been produced. We’re in the business of creating the best polarized lenses.

How can you tell if your sunglasses are polarized?

Just hold them at 90° to another pair labelled as polarized and if the lenses go dark where the lenses overlap, then your sunglasses are polarized too. If there’s no change, your lenses aren’t polarized.

Or you could ask a computer because computer screens use polarizing filters. When your computer is switched on and you have something on the screen – a document, game or anything else – just put on your sunglasses and tilt you head left and right. If you reach a point when the screen goes dark you know your lenses are polarized.
